What Causes Sharp Pain In The Pelvis?

Hi, my name is Jackie, I am 19 years old and live in the USA. I just went to the ER because I had sharp, and severe pelvic pain. They tested my urine and did an ultrasound and found out that I was A) not pregnant, and B) had a small cyst on my left ovary. They gave me an anti-inflammatory and tramadol for the pain but the pain is not going away and I m gaining more symptoms. I now have really aggressive and pounding headaches, which hurt the most at the bottom of the back of my actual head and top of my neck. I also started bleeding, almost like a period. Which was only strange to me because I have had an IUD (Mirena) since I was 16, and have not had any sort of bleeding from my vagina since a couple months after I had it inserted. I don t know where exactly to go next, my work makes it hard to spend too much time in a doctor s office. Let me know what any of you think, thanks. -Jackie

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion you must be suffering from all these problems because of hormonal imbalance. Visit a gynecologist and get removed your IUD (mirena). Repeat the USG after your next periods to check the resolution of your cyst. Ovarian cyst most of the times comes back to normal after your periods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Kirti Bhise
