What Causes Sharp Pain In The Thigh Radiating To The Knee?

i have had a sharp sharp pain that went from my thigh ti my knee resently i went to the doctor he did acupuncture on me and that just made it worse the pain becomes to much and i dont know what to do no more what could be causing this pain and what can i do to make it go away
