What Causes Sharp Pain In The Upper Thigh While Walking?

When walking or jogging, I sometimes get a sharp pain in my upper thigh, that radiates all the way to my heal. It feels as if I've been stabbed in the thigh, and the throbbing pain just travels through whole leg. It goes away in about 3 minutes, but reoccurs as I try to walk again. What can I do to alliaviate this pain faster?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.I understand your concern.
Your symptoms suggest compression of sciatic nerve at lumber spine/scitic notch or due to contraction of pyriformis muscle.
The cause can bre pin pointed by MRI or CT scan imaging.Treatment can be by oral medicines.. anti inflammatory pain medicine,steroids.. local injection or oral /physiotherapy/spinal surgery .
Thanks.
