What Causes Sharp Pain On The Left Side Of The Face?

I have been having a sharp pain on the left side of my face, it can go from my teeth to my eye. I have been to the dentist, he said there is nothing wrong with my teeth. It is not a constant pain. It usually only lasts for a few seconds. There is no rhyme or reason when it happens. It has happened when I am sleeping, once when I washed my hair, I hit a certain spot and it triggered the pain, sometimes when I brush my teeth, or apply foundation to my face--but not every time. Im not sure what type of Doctor to even see. Can you help?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Your symptoms looks like you are suffering from Trigeminal neuralgia as it is the common cause for short bouts of severe pain.

You should consult a Neurophysician and get evaluated..
An MRI scan will be advised to you to rule out the exact cause of the pain and will be treated accordingly..

In case if Trigeminal neuralgia is confirmed as the diagnosis then you can be advised Neurotic painkillers like Carbamazipine, Gabapantin etc..
At times surgical management may be required..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
