What Causes Sharp Pain Starting From My Hand To My Elbow?

Hi I saw the hospital about 2 weeks ago when had a sharp pain shoot from my hand to my elbow and couldn't move my wrist without hurting nor could I grip without it hurting! They said it was soft tissue and just to rest it I have done this yet still not better, still get pains and if touched in a certain part of my wrist it really hurts! Could this be a stress fracture if so what do I do?
