What Causes Sharp Shooting Pain In Head And Neck During Pregnancy?

I am 36 weeks pregnant and have had a trace of protein in my urine for some time with swelling but BP fine. The last 2 days though I have had a really bad headache, sharp shooting pains down one side of my head and neck and bad sickness again. It is stopping me from sleeping and making me feel generally unwell. The baby is moving lots (more than ever). My mother was induced on all of her children due to pre-clampsia and has suggested I get my BP checked again asap incase I have developed it? I dont have a midwife appointment for another 4 days but cannot cope with this headache until then, paracetamol has not helped?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Headaches is one of the symptom of severe pre eclampsia.Since your urine shows protein and you have strong history of pre eclampsia in the mother, then chances of preeclampsia in your case are high. Such a headache is due to high blood pressure and do not gets relieved by paracetamol.
I would suggest you to consult an OBGYN specialist urgently so that proper examination, investigations and management can be done.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
