What Causes Sharp Shooting Pain In The Leg?

My mom went to pick something and threw out her back. Throwing out her turned into a shooting pain in her leg. She said that it had happened beforewhen she was pregnagt with me and says that it was the nerve. She tried taking pain medication from over the counter but that s not working. She can t sleep because of the pain. What can I do to help her?

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your mom's leg pain.

The sharp shooting pain is because of the severe muscle spasm. Apply hot pack at the site of pain and do slight, soft massage at the site of pain area.

She can also take over the counter muscle relaxant twice daily in case she is not allergic to it, like Thiochochicene.

Hope the answer to your question, in case she doesn't get any relief visit to a orthopedic surgeon for further evaluation.
