What Causes Sharp Shooting Pain On Toes?

Since May i keep getting really bad sharp pains which shoot up my baby toe and fourth toe. The sharp pains can be random but more often and really embarrassing it happens when I'm passing stools. The pain can be so painful I dread going to the toilet. I have been dieting since May and don't whether its coincidence. I do wonder if its sciatica. Do you know what it could be?
