What Causes Sharp Stabbing Pain In The Shin?

I woke up with a sudden, excruciating pain in my left shin. The pain lasted 5-6 seconds. It was located where I was cut with a chainsaw 21 years prior, and it had cut into the bone. This pain happened 6 times within 45 minutes. It happened again that evening. It then happened in the evening two days later. It did not matter if I was sitting, standing, walking or laying down. I could not make it happen. I went to the ER where they took xrays of my shin & of my lower back (to rule out a pinched nerve). They could not find a cause. They sent me to an orthopedic. They too could not find a cause. The orthopedic ordered an MRI. My insurance turned them down because I had not had physical therapy (how do you get PT when you don t even have a diagnosis??) My primary care physician refuses to see me - says I need to follow up with the ortho. I need a diagnosis. Would not have wasted my time giving you all of this information had I known you were going to charge for it. You should have shown some integrity and told me that up front.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Acute ligament sprain or strain can be of concern with normal radiologic evaluations. Assisted physiotherapy, allowable mobility, analgesic spray or ointment, medications as ibuprofen or else would help gradually over a period of time to settle the issue in best possible manner.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
