What Causes Sharp Stabbing Pain In The Upper Back?
I have pain on the left side of my upper back. It is an achy pain, not stabbing pain. It started when I took an afternoon nap. I thought maybe I slept wrong on my side. It got worse as the evening has progressed so I took two Advil. It is a little better. My concern is if it is my kidney. Should I use a heating pad?

Most probably it is due to spine related conditions like prolapsed disc or nerve compression. As a first line management you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedic and plan for an MRI scan.
