What Causes Sharp Tearing Pain In The Lower Left Side While Exercising?

when i went to do standard push ups today i got a sharp tearing pain in my lower left side as I went to go down towards the floor. it is still uncomfortable when i move certain ways and a dull pain is there even as a sit. what could this be from and can i continue to work out
