What Causes Shingles Around The Pubic Area Despite Taking Gabapentin?

im 81 old male . ive have ben going through very bad case of zoster singles. now about 3 mo. the drs. have got them dryed up but I still have a breaking out around my privates I have ben takeing gabapentin 800mg for about 2 mos. not getting better whats the next step thanks

Hi.
As per your case history you are having post herpetic neuralgia.
My treatment advice is -
1. Pain of shingles lasts for 6-12 months in aged people.
2. Apply a soothing lotion like calamine lotion on affected region twice daily.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
4. Other treatment options are oral gabapentin, carabamazepine and amitryptiline taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
