What Causes Shooting Pain From Hip To The Leg?

I have had shooting pain from hip on left side shooting down to thigh, then across to groin area, then down inside of my leg for three days now. This morning, in the shower I noticed bruising high on my thigh into my groin area. The bruise does not hurt to press on it, however, sharp pain like stabs of pain seem to eliminate from it at random times throughout the day. It is evening now and my leg hurts so much. Is there a home remedy I can do to get rid of this pain?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The pain that you are describing may be due to neuropathy which refers to abnormal structure or function of the nerves.

There are different possible causes such as : (a)infection such as shingles
(b)diabetes
(c)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(d)liver or kidney disease
(e)side effect of medication
(f)trauma to the back or thighs causing damage to the nerves
(g)idiopathic- no cause known

You can use anti inflammatory pain medication to help with the pain eg naproxen, cataflam or ibuprofen.
There are medications that specifically help with nerve related pain but these would need to be prescribed by your doctor.

A warm compress may also help along with applying a topical agent such as voltaren gel.

I hope this helps
