What Causes Shooting Pain From The Occipital Region Of Neck?

When I bit down on a hard food (like almonds) or make a sudden movement of my head, I have a sharp, shooting pain from the occipital region of my neck on the left, up to right behind my left eyeball. I m wondering if this can be caused from stress / tension or if I should have it checked out.
