What Causes Shooting Pain In Head Along With Shivering And Perspiration?

I was told by my dr. that i may have a viral infection. I get cold chills, tremble then perspire a great deal, I feel exhausted like I have physically run a marathon when in actuality I am not very active lately. I have pain under my arms and shooting pains in my head. How long does this last and is it contagious?
