What Causes Shooting Pain In Knee Radiating Down The Calf?
I slipped on slush in a parking lot and something popped in my knee(I didn t fall and land on it as I caught myself) when I returned home I felt something pop again this ( popping) has happened for the first two days and now it has a pain that shoots through the knee cap and its swollen on the outside of the knee and the pain runs down my calf
Hello and welcome to HCM, Swelling around the knee joint and pain radiating down from knee down to calf is most probably due to injury to the knee joint. Swelling can occur due to collection of fluid in the knee joint or swelling of soft tissues. Pain which is shooting from knee to calf is most probably due to nerve injury or nerve compression. I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment, relevant investigation and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
