What Causes Shooting Pain In Left Ring Finger?

My left ring finger has sharpshooting pain centered at the base of my nail...it happens sporadically several times a day.....but my bigger question is....that same finger if i hit it from the nail to the main knuckle. Even a light bump, i will get a stabbing pain that goes up my arm to my shoulder...my whole arm goes numb for a while...it hurts up the inside and outside of my arm....my hand stays numb for quite awhile and then it throbs for hours...i bumped it today at 9am and it still throbs now and then....is this just a nerve issue or is there a reason to have a doctor check it

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a pinched nerve.

I suggest using an anti-inflammatory option such as Ibuprofen 600 mg three times a day.

I also suggest maintaining the area immobilized to prevent further nerve damage.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
