What Causes Shooting Pain In The Forearm?

I've had pains in my left forearm lately that really hurt, like shooting pains every so often, they've stopped over the past week, but today my arm where the pains were feels really bruised, I haven't bumped it or anything, do you have any idea what this could be?!
