What Causes Shooting/pulling Pain From Hip To Toes?

I have a shooting/pulling pain right from my hip till toes on either sides or on the left or right at one time. I get this pain ones in a month and this lasts for atleast ten days. During this time nights are sleepless for me , as the pain does not let me lie down.
