What Causes Short Of Breath While Sleeping?

Dear Doctor, i have been experiencing disturbed sleep for quite some time . i normally wake up interrupted with short breaths and usually feel tired afterwards . i also indulge in daytime sleeping . i have problem with deep breathing. i also want to mention that i have inflated tonsils which gets worse when i eat something cold . I am also obese . Please recommend a a treatment for the problem

The symptoms like multiple awakenings in night, day time drowsiness should not be ignored. The sudden awakening in night with breathlessness, and then tiredness could be due to sleep apnoea. You have mentioned that you are obese so most likely it should be obstructive sleep apnoea. I would advise you to loose weight as this will improve your situation.

Consult a Sleep Specialist for proper evaluation and management. Usually in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA) devices like CPAP (continuous airway pressure) are advised. The device help to maintain normal breathing in night and prevent obstruction.
