What Causes Shortness Of Breath Along With Fatigue When Suffering From Anemia?
Hi, my haemoglobin level dropped to 6.4 and I was given an iron infusion as I m unable to tolerate oral iron supplements. My haemoglobin is now 9.1 but I feel the same physically, achey limbs just from washing my hair and drying it, I have to stop several times to allow the ache to go, Short of breath walking short distances, cold hands and feet and a general feeling of exhaustion and light headedness. Is 9.1 still low? I was told my iron levels were low when it was 6.4. Regards Jemma
If you had symptomatic anemia due to iron deficiency, possibility of other micronutrients deficiencies also exist. Though now Hb is getting better but it's level to be around 9 is still significantly low to cause generalised weakness but other vitamin deficiencies should also be ruled out. Meanwhile B12 , folic acid, B6 and D3 may be replaced along with calcium too.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
