What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Redness In The Hands?

Hello Dr. I have an 18 year old son who is so nervous about growing up....scared actually. He caught a minor cold but cannot overcome it. Now, shortness of breath (nasal passages are clear) but he feels as though he is not getting enough air. I had him take breaths and exhale through is mouth (such as blowing up a baloon) he did great for the 5x i asked him to do this. It appears to us that it is all stress related, afraid of getting out on his own. He went to his first job interview yesterday. On the way home he had several patches of redness that went away after an hour. Again he appeard stressed. Now his hands are very red, shallow breathing as one would do that is panicked. We have tried to calm him down, reassuring him, praying with him. We are out of ideas. Any suggestions?
