What Causes Shortness Of Breath Despite Being On Oxygen?
I am on oxygen but still have real shortness of breath when I move around. Last week at the Dr. I was sitting still and my oxygen was 100 with it was 100. I stood up and walked about 3 ft across the hall with oxygen still On was 84. Dr. Says I have heart failure but I have not seen a specialist in over 5 yrs. I also have asthma but I want a real diagnosis. Whatever he is doing is not helping. I know you can t give something solid but until I can get to a specialist in the city, I just would like to know if there was anything else it could be. Thanks, Sandra Venis YYYY@YYYY
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Yes, you should definitely consult pulmonologist. You are having desaturation (fall in oxygen saturation) on exertion. It is classical finding of Interstial Lung Disease (ILD). And for the confirmed diagnosis of ILD , you need to get done HRCT thorax. It is actually fibrosis of the lungs. In which lungs become stiff and can not expand fully when exertion done. So patient feels breathlessness and desaturation on exertion. So in your case pulmonologist's consultation and HRCT thorax is needed to rule out ILD. The treatment of ILD consist of anti fibrosis, anti inflammatory and much lyric drugs, along with oxygen. So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
