What Causes Shortness Of Breath On Exertion And Extreme Fatigue?

Hi...I am a 53 year old female with shortness of breath ( especially upon exertion) and have fatigue. I take Synthroid, norithidron and an iron supplement for anemia although my iron level just increased to 10. I don t have a cough but do spit up a little bit of phlegm. My dad died of emphysema and my mom had atherosclerosis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome to HCM.

I can appreciate your concern for the shortness of breath on exertion & fatigue.

The features described in your query are suggestive of ischemic heart disease or heart failure. Another possibility could be due to the anemia.

If I were your treating doctor I would have requested for an ECG, Chest X ray and an Echocardiography along with some routine blood tests to confirm the diagnosis.

Hope to have answered your query.

I find this answer helpful
