What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Severe Cough And Constant Phlegm In The Throat?

going to bed having an asthma attack or shortness of breathe constant heavy coughing, to being awaken at night having to split out bubbly phlegm. throughout the day I have to constantly clear my throat to clear my airway. I use my inhaler and it works sometimes but does clear it all the way up. It s to the point I ask my co-worker not to make me laugh cause my laughing thro turns into me coughing so hard i can t catch me breathe and can t control the cough. This have cause my employees to be alarmed. Once I get control after almost passing out. tears are streaming, face is flushed and i have pee a little. My lungs need air and it feel like there something blocking it. I m concerned cause I do have asthma but it s just seasonal, I m not sure if my asthma getting worst or if or something else is wrong

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of shortness of breath, severe cough and constant phlegm in the throat which is due to excessive formation of bile which is leading to acid reflux. It could be due to respiratory tract infection , lung infection or post nasal drip as well. You should avoid use of cold carbonated beverages You should take combination of antacid and proton pump inhibitors such as domperidone and omeprazole. Avoid oily, spicy and sharp food. Take diet rich in multivitamins. You should take proper course of antibiotic as well. You should visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get paranasal sinus x-ray and chest x-ray done along with blood tests and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti allergic drugs.
