What Causes Shortness Of Breath, Tingling In The Fingers, Back Pain And Nausea?

Since 12/26 I have been experiencing shortness of breath, tingling in fingers alternately between both hands or at same time, pain in middle of back and feeling of nausea but no sweating or chills, back and upper left side pain and like I swallowed a golf ball then it disappears. Went to two trips local ER. Nothing in Ct scan, chest scans or blood, urine tests. Bp was only slightly elevated but otherwise normal. But once there and resting, symptoms dismiss and I go home but this begins again in few hours. What could it mean?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Tingling and other abnormal sensations is normally related to abnormal function of the nerves in the area. This is called neuropathy and it can be permanent or temporary.

There are different causes:

1. Trauma to the nerves
2. Diabetes
3. Low levels of vitamin B12 or folate
4. Exposure to toxins
5. Side effect of medicines
6. Thyroid disease
7. Abnormal B6 levels
8. Infections
9. Neurological conditions such as ms or stroke

If it continues then you can see a neurologist.

With regard to the nauseaa, there are also a number of different causes. The most common are- GERD (reflux), infection, side effect of medicine, kidney or liver disease, vertigo.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
