What Causes Shortness Of Breath When Diagnosed With Progressive Heart Failure?

I was diagnosed with Progressive Heart Failure. I am 75 and have no history of heart problems. This came out of nowhere. I had the symptom of shortness of breath. I have been put on three drugs, Aldactone, Coreg, and Enalapril. My doctor says it will be 6 months to 1 year before we can see how my heart is reacting to the medicines. I read on line that people with this diagnosis have a 50/50 chance of surviving for 5 years but know many people with this diagnosis that are living well beyond that into their 90s. Any comments?
