Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a woman aged 65 and am taking Abilify. When I stand and walk into my bedroom I am so out of breath that I have to lay on the bed. I had this problem a few years ago and went through numerous cardiac tests. All were negative. I did take Abilify in the past but I cannot remember if I was taking it at that time. Could this shortness of breath be from the medication? I recently had a chest x-ray which was also fine. Thank you.
Trouble breathing is a rare side effect of Abilify. However, I can't say exactly if this side effect is occurring in your case.
I suggest you, first of all, to consult a doctor for a cardiologic physical exam, blood pressure measurement, and performing an ECG.
You also should consult the doctor that prescribed you Abilify, and tell him about the shortness of breath. If I was your doctor, I would try to replace Abilify with another drug, and check if the breathing problem improves. This is the only way to prove if this problem is a side effect of Abilify.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suela Gjata,
