What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Suffering From Congestive Heart Failure?

Good Morning, I have a question in regards to my husband he is age 58 with congestive heart failure, diabieties, copd. He is already on oxygen, I had him at the hospital since yesterday and they did a heart cath and told us he had some blockage but not enough for stints and sent him home. Well he is no better, he still continues to have shortness of breath, not able to lay down in the bed, is having panic attacks because he is not able to get enough air. He also has been coughing up mucus. Any suggestion of what else I maybe able to do for him?

Hello,

In a case of COPD, it is not unusual to have lower respiratory tract infection causing exacerbation of breathing difficulty.

A course of broad spectrum antibiotic for 5-7 days is likely to help.

Meanwhile, you can send sputum for culture & sensitivity tests.
