What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Suffering From Cough And Chest Congestion?

my loved one how had congestion, coughing, wet cough, etc. in very stages of severity. Since Sept he has seen his primary dr 3x. & a pulmonologist. He has been on 3 Zpacks, 2 augmentin Rx, oral steroids, inhalers. None of these have stopped or even alleviated the symptoms. He feels he gets shortness of breath due to activity.

Hello,

Your loved one is having progressive worsening of cough, expectoration and now developed breathlessness on exertion.

So we should definitely rule out lung diseases like chronic bronchitis, interstitial lung disease (ILD) and lung cancer.

So get done chest x-ray, PFT (Pulmonary Function Test) and CT thorax. PFT will not only diagnose bronchitis but it will also tell you about the severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only.

CT scan is a must for the diagnosis of ILD and lung cancer. Treatment is based on diagnosis.
