Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am taking Ramipril and Amlodipine and since i started the Amlodipine my breath has become shorter and this has progressed to a point where I now find myself gasping for breath sometimes. I also feel as though I am at altitude at times. I can breath but do not seem to get oxygen.i have had tests etc and still wait for some action. this has been 8 months at least.I am at the point where i can't even walk the dog.should I just stop the Amlodipine?
Hi Your history suggests that you are hypertensive and taking drugs and now you began to develop shortness of breath ( especially after introduction of amlodipine to your treatment). The possibilities are 1) you have some dysfunction of heart with reduced ejection fraction, in which condition drugs like amlodipine ( calcium channel blockers) to be avoided. That means an acute decompensations 2) you have some gradually deteriorating heart disease 3) symptoms not related to heart disease
In this condition you need further work up like echo cardiography
Please consult a cardiologist
Thank you
