What Causes Shortness Of Breath,wheezing And Fatigue?

Hello, My 18 years old daughter was diagnosed Alpha one about 4 yrs ago. She has recently begun experiencing, shortness of breath, wheezing, & fatigue. Can you help us find a really good doctor in Michigan? I am guessing a good one may be found at U of M. Can you help?

HI and thanks for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these symptoms that you have reported. With Alpha-1 deficiency, patients most likely have lungs damage in the form of emphysema which may explain these symptoms of shortness of breath, wheezing and fatigue. She would need to see a pulmonologist for evaluation and managment.

I will suggest that you go to the U of M or DMC depending on which of the hospitals offers you an early date.
