What Causes Sickness With Elevated Liver Enzymes After Bowel Obstruction?
Hi! I am a 19 y/o Male, 5 6 , 160 lbs. I have had two bowel obstructions since November, both of which I was hospitalized for (about a week each time). I have also had the flu, strep, c-diff, and mono in this time. Through all of the blood work that has been done, my liver function tests were significantly elevated each time I was sick, and gradually returned to normal. Now, I am not feeling sick (yet), but my liver functions are elevated again, as is my calcium levels. I have had ultrasounds and CTs, all of which showed nothing. I was hoping for some more insight. Hi,
Noted your history of recurrent hepatitis as per elevated liver function tests, admissions to hospital for bowel obstruction, liver functions raised during these times and got settled with time, now rising again, Ultrasound and CT scan normal, also have had flu, strep, c-diff and as you have mentioned.
The commonest causes I can think about are as follows:
- Enteritis causing mucosal oedema of mucosa causing obstruction,
- Partial stricture.
- SIBO that is Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth.
- Obstruction to bile flow.
- Hepatitis.
This can be further evaluated by the following ways:
- Consult a Gastroenterologist.
- Colonoscopy.
- Stool tests for 3 consecutive days.
- MRCP that is MRI of liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas. This can tell better diagnosis that Ultrasound and CT scan.
- Regular liver function tests.
- Fibroscan for liver.
- Any other tests as would be advised.
All these will help to get a proper diagnosis whether there is any surgical problems like stone in common Bile Duct, stricture or so.
You will then be treated specifically.
