What Causes Sides Pain With Breathing Difficulties?

Hi, I keep having pain in my sides. Its not like a dull pain, it like a strong pain that lies just under my skin. It come most times when i knock my sides by accident, move to quickly, stetch for things etc etc. When this pain occurs it hurts to breath and I have to rub my skin ever so gently. I can normally deal with pain, but this takes my breath away, any ideas please would be most greatful.
