Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My significant other has finally gone in for a hearing test and got an answer that is a little disturbing . It is not a hearing loss from damage or abuse , but none the less a significant hearing loss . The Dr. Seemed concerned it may be something between the ears . He has had no other significant symptoms for the last 11 yrs I have know him other than doesn t hear well . What would be your advise other than the Dr. Giving him referrals to a specialist?
Understanding your concern. As per your query your husband have significant hearing loss in which could be due to many reasons but it seems to me that the symptoms occur probably due to punctured ear drum, accumulation of wax and severe infection in your ear. It could be sensorineural hearing loss and acoustic neuroma condition. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist again for proper examination. Doctor may order certain test like CT scan and examine ear with otoscope. You should avoid touching and pricking it with sharp object. Doctor may prescribe stronger antibiotics at least or 10 days along with anti inflammatory , anti allergic and analgesic . Doctor may also recommend you patching of ear drum , tympanoplasty or hearing aid .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
