What Causes Sinus Congestion And Heaviness In Head In Spite Of Taking Amoxicillin?

About 2-1/2 wks ago I had a deep cough, sore throat, and sinus congestion. Dr. gave me amoxicillan. Have take 8 of the 10 days. sore throat gone, drainage in throat, head feels swollen, running nose, eye lids swollen and red. Nothing seems to relieve the symptoms that I can find OTC. Sleeping well at night, but after being up for 3-4 hours, I m so tired I have trouble concentrating and by evening just plain exhausted. Do I need to go see Dr. again

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of sinus congestion and heaviness in head in spite of taking Amoxicillin which means you are suffering from condition known as frontal sinus infection or ear infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to take nasal decongestant sprays. You should take throat lozenges. You should take combination of antihistamines and antibiotic combination as infection is present. Co amoxiclav is best treatment option. You should take steam inhalation. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Go for paranasal sinus X ray and otoscopic examination as well. You can get puncture and drainage of sinus if required. You can go for surgical reconstruction of opening after proper prescription. Do warm saline gargles.
