What Causes Sinus Infection And Thick Yellow Mucus?

After using nasal sinus rinse for approx. 2 years, I'm suddenly experiencing what I would call a mini sinus infection which lasts only a day, producing thick yellow mucus, but then going away after only a day. That happened to me on Saturday and now today (Monday) it seems to be happening again.

I'm using a brand new top since the one I was using fell into the toilet, and I always rinse both that and the bottle off with hot water. I was told it wasn't necessary to boil the water that I use, that tap water was safe to use. Can the rise action itself be causing this new symptom?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from sinus infection leading to Sinusitis and the symptoms of yellow discharge of mucous from the nose seems to be due to it..
In this case sinus rinse cannot alone relieve the symptoms and you need to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like PNS View x ray or MRI scan of the sinuses can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..
You can be advised a course of antibiotics, anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, decongestants like Pseudoephadrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol and along with it steam inhalation and saline nasal irrigation can help..
