What Causes Sinusitis Along With Pneumonia?

I have sinusitis which has become increasingly worse following three bouts of pneumonia since Nov. 15/2016. However I have also developed a situation whereby sometimes it feels like a small flap goes over my esophagus after eating something and I start to cough. Sometimes this also happens without eating or drinking before it occurs. I do have to have a drink after it occurs because my throat feels like it is tickling. I am 71 years old and since my last x-ray for the last pneumonia a black spot has been seen somewhere near my heart and I am having a CT in two weeks to investigate this. What causes this irritant cough to start? thankyou rhoda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, the CT scan should give more clarity as to the cause of repeated pneumonia and sinusitis. Underlying tuberculosis or fungal infection or a carcinoma could be the diagnosis here. A biopsy of the lung tissue would be confirmatory.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sanskriti Jawa
