What Causes Skin Cracks On The Palms And Fingers?

I have been suffering from painful, cracking skin on the palms and fingers. It feels like paper cuts. There is some itching as well with the fingertips so sore!!!! I saw a dermatologist who said there was nothing that can be done; he did suggest an ointment which helps but is not a cure, and also to use a hand cream constantly. This is unlike dry skin, far worse and confined to the palms/underside of fingers, with splitting skin and bleeding - painful! Can you please help? Am I deficient in certain vitamins,,,,please help.

yeas it may because of weather..but itching skin has also allergic signs..use ointment containing 1%corticosteroids,if also redness is there..
