What Causes Skin Peeling And Discoloration On Fingertips?

hi there. All 10 of my fingertips recently started peeling. then afterwards they turned brown right where the nail would meet the skin. so the nail itself is not brown too. The discoloration has been there now for about one month. Do you have any idea what could have caused this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Skin peeling and discoloration can be caused due to eczema.Eczema is an inflammatory condition of skin which can cause dryness, itching, blisters or peeling of skin. Nutritional deficiency, loss of sensation, sun allergy and autoimmune diseases should also b ruled out. Mild steroids like hydrocortisone and moisturizer should be used regularly to reduce the symptoms. Antihistamines can be used to reduce itching.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
