What Causes Skin Rashes While On Keppra And Tegretol?

I suffer from Trigeminal Neuralgia . I am presently taking Keppra . 750 mg a day. This morning I took a 200mg Tegretal and now I have a rash on my chest and swollen, itchy lips. I will not take the Tegretal again. Do I need to go to the emergency room. I took a tsp. of children s benedryl . No other side effects

This is due to allergy to Tegretol. Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign body. Foreign body may medicine like Tegretol, pollen, animal dander, dust and insect venom etc. When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn't. Severity of allergy may range from rash to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Advice
1.     Do not take meloxicam it future
2.     Levocetirizine5 mg – 1 tablet once daily for 7 days
3.     Dexamethasone 0.5 mg – 1 tablet twice daily for 7 days
4.     Do not scratch too much as it will caused skin damage and infection
5.     Calamine lotion – three times daily locally – will provide soothing effect
