What Causes Skipped Heart Beat?

Hi I am a 37 year old male with 5'9" tall and 140 pounds.
I suffer from constant skipped heart beats for the past two months along with slight arm pain and I underwent blood test and ECG and they all were normal?

What makes skipped beat and how serious it is?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello! Welcome on Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern, I would explain that your symptoms could be related to cardiac arrhythmia, despite the fact that your ECG are normal. For this reason, I would recommend performing some other tests:

- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to investigate for cardiac arrhythmia
-an exercise cardiac stress test to investigate for coronary artery disease
- thyroid hormone levels for possible thyroid gland dysfunction.

If all the above tests result normal, you should consider anxiety as the main cause underlying your complaints.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
