my dad is suffering from sleeping disorder for last 3 months. It started with loss of sleep due to some tension. He is not able to sleep for more than an hour per day, he is also having headache because of sleep loss. He works well when awake but as soon as he closes his eyes, he goes into deep think of useless things. We are not able to decide what to do and which doctor to consult for its remedy ?? Please guide.
Sleep hygiene practices will help him to improve sleep. These are:
Avoiding napping during the daytime; Avoiding stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol too close to bedtime; Doing relaxing exercise, like deep breathing and meditation; Staying away from large meals close to bedtime; Ensuring adequate exposure to natural light to maintain a healthy sleep-wake cycle; Establishing a regular relaxing bedtime routine; Associate bed with sleep only.
Alongwith this sleep inducing drugs like zolpidem can help. You can take him to a psychiatrist for further help.
