What Causes Sleeplessness After Taking Hydrocodone?
My husband is on hydrocodone5mg/325 Tylenol) up to 8 tablets per day due to a recent knee replacement. He cannot get a good nights sleep. We are aware it causes drowsiness.., but not the opposite , which he has.The pain has lessened( 3 weeks after his surgery ). Is there any chance the condone is causing his sleep issue??He also rakes clonipen, melatonin, & infrequently ambien, 10 mg.Any good suggestions??
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Hydrocodone is an opioid drug used as pain medicine for severe intractable pain. The drug is known to cause drowsiness and some sedation but this drug doesn't cause insomnia. He is having sleeplessness and most likely reason for her poor sleep is persistent pain and his bed ridden condition. Try to reassure him and relax him as this would help to improve his condition. If problem of insomnia is severe and then medicines like Zolpidem or Zopiclone can help if used on SOS basis. These medicines will help in good sleep and he would feel better. Consult his attending doctor for proper prescription of these medicines.
Hope this helps you. Thanks and Take care
