Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have ongoing sleep issues which prevent me from achieving deep sleep. I am aware/awake or in a light sleep most nights. Sleep apnea has been ruled out by ENT, but sleep disorder was never addressed. Afraid that seeing a pulmonologist/sleep specialist will only address non-existent pulmonary issues. Fatigued beyond belief and frustrated as well as emotionally drained. Thyroid issues ruled out, (+) h/o fibromyalgia which appears to be out of control at this time. Where do I start (already see PCP, Neurologist, pain specialist) but still no sleep. Any suggestions? Changing of meds has not helped either.
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. You have issues of poor sleep and are not able to sleep properly. Persistent poor sleep is resulting in symptoms like emotionally drained, frustration, aggravation of fibromyalgia symptoms. The issues of disturbed sleep have resulted in these symptoms. You have no issues related to sleep apnea and this has been ruled out. In such case in my opinion you should consult a psychiatrist for proper evaluation.
Medicines like Trazodone, Mirtazapine etc helps in good sleep and thus will improve your day time fatigue. For pain and poor sleep medicines like Gabapentine or Pregabalin etc can help. These medicines will reduce the pain and thus will help in sleep also. Please visit a doctor for proper evaluation and treatment.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
