What Causes Sleeplessness Most Of The Time?

When I was a teenager I struggled to get the proper amount of sleep during school nights. Sometimes sleeping only a few hours. I recall I was severely tired during school and I often resorted to napping, which made getting to sleep at night even harder. I often managed to sleep in on the weekends though and my diet was good. Could I have stunted my growth? (I am shorter than all the other men my family.)

Sleep is important for overall health but there is no evidence to suggest that insomnia contributes directly to stunted height.
Since you had no difficulty in sleeping during weekends and felt sleepy during the school hours, it is possible that you had disorder of sleep cycle such as Delayed Sleep Phase Disorder. In this condition, a person sleeps later than others and gets up later than others. For example, the person goes to sleep around 1 to 2 am and then gets up around 9 to 10 am. However, if you were forced to get up earlier due to school hours etc, you wouldn't get enough sleep.
I hope this answers your question.
