What Causes Sleeplessness While Being On Zoloft For Anxiety And Insomnia?

I was recently prescribed Zoloft, for anxiety and insomnia. I took one pill. didn t sleep. haven t slept in a couple days. My Dr. Said wait 4/5 days to increase the dose to 2 pills daily. Would it hurt to take 2 immediately or is there another suggestions (over the counter) until they start to take effect

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Drugs acting on central nervous system needs at least a week time to start acting. Dose changes can be made in steps of 50 mg at intervals of at least one week, up to a maximum of 200 mg/day.

Changes in dose should not be made more frequently than once per week. Non-pharmacological treatment interventions such as relaxation therapies, sleep hygiene education, sleep restriction therapy can be tried along with drugs.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General and Family Physician
