What Causes Slight Enlargement In The Spleen?

A very dear friend of mine was having some LUQ pain, so he went to the doctor and they found his spleen to be slightly enlarged. In addition to that his UA shows 2-3 RBCs in his urine, a slightly elevated anion gap and I think his MCVs were a little high as well. All other results on the CBC and Hematology were normal. He also consumes at least one energy drink everyday, and takes no medicines. His BP is borderline. I am concerned that it may be some kind of lymphoma.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
It is not likely to be lymphoma since in this case there would be focal leions seen and noit just enlarged spleen. He should do CT scan and liver evaluation to see is there mononucleosis or portal vein obstruction, Also, this is in most cases caused by infections, but some benign hematologic diseases should be considered. Malignancy is the last thing to think of...

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
