What Causes Slip Disc And Motor Neuron Disease?

My mother has been told that she is suffering from a crumbling spine and this si affecting particularly the neck area and also the lower spine where she had some slipped discs and a kink in her spinal cord. They are considering keyhole surgery for the kink and she is also undergoing tests for posible Motor Nuron Disese... Are the two connected and what is her likely prognoses???
