What Causes Slurred Speech After Taking BP Medicine?

i have a sister who is 46 years old, an alcoholic (shes drank everyday for as long as I can remember) . She recently went to the dr. and they prescribed her blood pressure medication. I don t know what kind she wont share that with me. she has bee having issues with bad circulation in her legs, and has fallen over a few times. She has cut down on her drinking a little, but there are times I call or visit and she is spacey, or slurring her words even before she has a beer. Her daughter and and close friend have called me concerned. I have offered to take her to the dr. or even the emergency room but she refuses to go. Is there something I can have them watch for? I live about 1hr away, so I am not readily available if something were to go wrong or to monitor her symptoms closer. Can I force her to see a dr??

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

If she is mentally competent, she cannot be compelled to go anywhere but if you or her daughter or friends suspect that she is not competent and this can be proven, then medical care can be enforced. It would be best for her to consider further reducing alcohol intake, this can be difficult to do by oneself so she should join a group that may assist. Long term use of alcohol can affect mental function so this may be the reason that she may sound impaired before any additional alcohol use.

Hope I have answered your query.
